Undergraduate Academic Advisor

LOCATION: ж¶Òõ Baptist University (WBU) – Hawaii Campus 

SUPERVISED BY: Senior Academic Advisor 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt 

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None                                                                                                        .  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Academic Advisor helps undergraduate students regarding academic degree plan requirements, career planning, and university policies.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 

  1. Provides personal assistance to military and civilian students regarding degree programs
  2. Builds academic degree plans and verify the required course registrations
  3. Advises students on educational issues, required documents, program selection and career planning
  4. Offers guidance when studnets are having academic challenges or need to withdraw from courses
  5. Interfaces with faculty when needed to advocate students’ needs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 

  1. Associate’s degree required
  2. Bachelor’s degree preferred

 Experience and Knowledge: 

  1. Experience in higher education academic advising is preferred.
  1. Two (2) years of proven experience in an office setting is required

Skills and Abilities: 

  1. Excellent oral, written, analytical and interpersonal communication skills
  2. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  3. Independent problem solving, self-direction, and strong time management skills
  4. Skilled with word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and PowerPoint
  5. Must be able to build and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  7. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and situations with tact, professionalism and diplomacy

Work Environment: The work environment for this position is a standard office setting. Employees will work primarily at a desk or workstation, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.  The office maintains a controlled temperature.  Noise levels are generally moderate, with typical office sounds such as conversations and office machinery. 

Hours of Work: Plainview campus - Although full-time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. External campuses - Although full-time, nonexempt external campus employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week, the official work week for full-time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. Normal work days on all campuses are Monday through Friday

Physical Demands: 

  • Frequently stand and walk;
  • Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing;
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;
  • Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Occasionally push or pull objects;
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Frequently reach at or below should height, and occasionally reach above shoulder height 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.   If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses.  Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license.  Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
